Odetta Holmes who was born in Birmingham, Alabama died earlier this month. She was a singer and actress popular in the 1950s. I didn't know much-maybe not anything-about her until December 2nd, the day she died. A friend of mine played a mournful melody of hers and waxed poetically of her talent. When I heard her voice, I thought "Wow!" I wished I'd known her sooner. I've put a song of hers on my playlist.
